My name is Emily and I write a lot of book reviews– much more sporadically nowadays, but I’m working on it.

Rating/Review System

Art is subjective, and that applies to books too. Therefore, none of my star ratings should be viewed as a judgement of a book’s innate quality; rather, they reflect my personal taste. I try to provide details in my reviews about what specifically I liked and disliked so that people can judge whether they’d be interested in the book.

Miscellany about me:

  • I like to read literary fiction, speculative fiction, and horror with a psychological dimension, and that’s generally what I write as well. I also read a lot of nonfiction on leftist politics and activism, history, popular science of all stripes, and environmentalism.
  • When I was a kid, I said that when I grew up I wanted to be “a philosopher” but all I have become is bad at parties
