When I was reading this book I just kept thinking about the thought that comes into my head sometimes, about how I can just tell that my life is not going to amount to anything all that interesting or happy.

Ruta Sepetys is an American Young Adult historical fiction author who writes about often-overlooked historical events, usually focusing on 20th-century European history. Her books are written with teens in mind, but they are often considered “crossover” novels because of their simultaneous appeal to adult readers. Her father was a Lithuanian refugee, and this has inspired some of her fiction.
I think I’m obligated to give this book five stars first because of its impact.

Back to the fiction world for today’s set of mini-reviews! Today I’ll be reviewing The Rose Code by Kate Quinn and Passing by Nella Larson.
There’s no doubt that the Second World War, by common consensus one of the most devastating major events in the 20th century, is an important thing to read about. However, the historical fiction market is completely saturated with WW2 books– and a very specific brand of WW2 books at that.
It’s hard to believe 2020 is almost over, but I am certainly not complaining. Although it was a little lacking in other departments, 2020 was an amazing reading year for me. I started my blog in March, which reignited my almost-dormant passion for reading, and as the year went on my book addiction was completely rekindled. As of now- December 26th- I have read 125 books. That’s the highest number of books I’ve read in a year since I began keeping track on Goodreads in 2017.
I am ashamed of myself.
First because I failed to read this book sooner, and second because I’ve been complaining about quarantine nonstop without truly realizing that my life is NOT that bad.
WOW… another 5-star read for 2020. It’s only been two days, and I already want to re-read this exceptionally powerful novel.
Half mystery and half historical fiction, Where the Crawdads Sing had a very intriguing premise. I’m not sure how I felt about the execution, though.
This is probably the most unique historical fiction book I’ve read all year. My first read by Ruta Sepetys did not disappoint!
I love historical fiction; it’s my favorite genre, which a lot of people think is weird but what can I say? History is fascinating, and historical fiction is MASSIVELY underrated. Here are some of my favorite historical fiction books written for YA/older middle grade, in the rough order of their featured time periods.

Yes, I read this book because of coronavirus and I’m very grateful that we have more medical knowledge now than we did in 1793…
