It’s a little ironic that I was nominated for this award, considering how inexplicably horrible I am at art…
Anyway, thanks for RMA YA Books for nominating me for the Aesthete Blogger Award! This award was created by the amazing Ashmita@ the Fictional Journal, and I have to say I love the idea. It’s such a unique award and I was really excited to have a chance to do it!
“This award is to honor every creative person, irrespective of their number of followers and views. Because, as long as you create, that is all that matters. This award is for those bloggers who put an insane amount of thought in each of their posts and for those who spread creativity like wildfire! Just wow!” — I love this sentiment.
The Rules:
- Use the official logo/graphic of the award and display it on your blog.
- List the rules.
- Show some love to the one who nominated you!
- Mention the creator (Ashmita@ the Fictional Journal) and link it back to the original post.
- Tell me a something about this world that you admire.
- What is your favourite form of creativity?
- Nominate 7 lovely people and notify them by commenting on their posts; spread some love!
- Ask your nominees 4 questions.
- Share something you created. (can be anything!)
- And lastly, just so you know: I LOVE YOUR CREATIONS!
The Questions:
Tell me something about this world that you admire.
The amount of interesting things there are to learn about! When I was a kid I wanted to know “everything about everything” and got really sad when my parents told me that was impossible, but I still think it’s unbelievably tragic that you can’t ever know everything about everything.
What is your favourite form of creativity?
Now, some people will say this doesn’t count, but I firmly believe that programming is a type of creativity. If you’re working on a project like an app, there is so much work that goes into the design. You have to figure out what the screens will look like, what colors to use, how the user will interact with the screens, and then you have to figure out how to organize your code and think of the most efficient way to do things.
Coming up with a project is definitely creativity. But even if you’re just doing a programming challenge, coming up with a way to solve the problem in the lowest time complexity and with the fewest lines is a creative endeavor itself. Go on any of those hackathon websites and take a look at the thousands of different ways people solve each probelm!.
This was a long answer, but I feel particularly passionate about this because my English class last month was having a debate about creative classes at school, and no one seemed to realize that more “technical” subjects are creative too as well as art, music and writing. People tend to assume I have no creativity since I’m more involved in science, math and coding and have close to zero conventional artistic talent, but I don’t think that’s fair. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
If you could be remembered for creating one thing, what would it be?
Hmmmmm well just like everyone else in the book blogosphere… I’d like to write an amazing book of some sort. What genre? I don’t know. What topic? I don’t know. Trust the process.
What creative activity have you always wanted to learn?
Hmm, well I wish I were better at painting/art, so maybe taking a class work help me? I don’t know though, because every time I draw something I get made fun of by my sister who is so good at art she has a YouTube channel about it (go check it out here)
I also want to re-learn how to play the violin. I played in my elementary school orchestra for two years, but stopped to focus more on piano. But I love violins too…
Also, being able to thrift-flip or make clothes seems really fun, even though it isn’t something I could ever see myself doing. I can’t sew at all and it seems boring, but making your own clothes seems fun. It’s complicated.
Update: now I’m learning how to crochet so I can make sweaters(pretty much the only things I wear). I’m not great at it, but it’s relaxing.
What song would play during the closing credits to the movie of your life?
This is a really deep question that I really cannot answer…
I don’t know, hmm what song is like an “ending” song?
“Closing Time” the most depressing ending song I can think of.
When you imagine yourself perfectly content and serene, where are you?
Sitting by the edge of a lake with mountains behind me and it’s sunset.

Oh man the fact that you can never learn everything about everything hit me hard…I suppose that means we’ve got to learn all there is to learn before our time’s up?
Playing violin’s always sounded fun to me, I played piano for a while but I recently stopped in favor of guitar, so the latter’s been a way better fit for me personally. (great post!!)

It is the most depressing thought– especially when you think of all the discoveries that won’t happen for hundreds of year after we live 😦 Violin is just a beautiful instrument and I regret quitting– I’m hoping that at least in college I’ll be able to pick up violin again. I’ve been playing piano since I was 5 and I love it, but I’ve never tried guitar– I have thought about it but I can’t sing and I get the feeling you have to sing to play guitar, lol

Yeah, especially with the ocean…I mean, I just had to look it up, but there’s still 80% of it we haven’t explored…
I played piano for almost 10 years, but it started feeling like a chore, which is really a shame, because it’s such a beautiful instrument. Sometimes I still wish I remembered how to play, but guitar is definitely a better fit for me. I’m really into alt rock and all that, so I get to play all songs I like 🙂 oof yeah I mean it depends, but I never really sing, so skdjhfskjfh

Yes it is crazy. I actually took a few breaks from piano when it started feeling like a chore to practice, but now that I am older I am happy I never stopped– it’s good that you found an instrument you like a lot!

I really want to know everything about everything, too! I’m still incredibly disappointed that that simply isn’t possible, although I suppose things might also get a bit boring if there was nothing left to discover 🤔
And programming totally counts as creativity! As a math student, I love your answer to that question 😊
I’m also very impressed by your scrunchie 😁
Thanks so much for the nomination, too! We’ll see when I finally get around to doing it 🙈🤣

Thank you! Actually that’s a good point– it really might get boring if there was nothing left to learn… I like that. I’m glad someone agrees with me about STEM subjects! Can’t wait to read your answers whenever you get around to writing the post!

Ooh really? I’m glad to find someone who shares my interests! I’m still in high school but I’m set on getting an engineering or science degree. I have to apply to colleges this year and I’m currently planning to apply as a computer science major!
