I’m currently in a blogging slump AND a reading slump. We’ve all been there, I’m sure (or at least, I really hope), so today I decided to compile a list of 30 blog post ideas for when you’re in a writing slump.
1) Write a book review
Starting off with the most obvious one– write a book review. Whether it’s for a book you read a long time ago or the one you finished this morning (presuming your reading slump isn’t as bad as your blogging slump), book reviews are always an option.
2) What are your favorite books?
You never really know a person (read: book blogger) until you know his/her favorite books, right?
3) Give a bookshelf tour
Whether you’re motivated by the simple desire to give people home decor inspiration or the more sinister desire to invoke envy in all who lay eyes upon your gorgeous bookshelves, a bookshelf tour is always a fun option.
4) Who’s your favorite author and why?
People always want to discover new authors.
5) Seasonal book recommendations
If it’s summer, pick out some summer book recs. If it’s winter, pick out some winter book recs. If it’s fall- stop? Okay.
6) Do you associate certain books/genres with certain seasons?
It’s a real thing.
7) How did you get into reading?
Tell us your reader origin story.
8) What do you think about reading books for school?
Do you tend to like reading books for school? What do you think of the commonly cited “academic” books?
9) Why did you start book blogging?
No one reads blogs anymore. No one reads BOOKS anymore. Why would you put so much of your time and effort into being a book blogger, of all things? (Ew!)
10) What are your thoughts on fiction vs. nonfiction books?
Do you read for escapism? For education? Something in-between?
11) Do you use Goodreads to track your reading? TheStoryGraph?
What do you think of each platform? Do you like tracking your reading online?
12) How do you track your reading?
Are you addicted to spreadsheets?
13) Who are your favorite bookish influencers?
Are you obsessed with SparkNotes’ tweets too?
14) What are some popular book tropes you like?
I hear enemies-to-lovers is a crowd favorite.
15) What are some popular book tropes you hate?
Chosen one?
16) What are some of your favorite childhood books?
Speaking of chosen one…. let’s not discuss how I read the Harry Potter series not once, not twice, not even three times but TEN times in 5th grade.
17) What’s your favorite book-to-movie or book-to-TV-show adaption?
And which is better, movies or TV shows?
18) Is the book always better?
That’s a loaded question.
19) Are you a mood-reader or a TBR-follower?
And do you wish you could be one or the other?
20) Do you follow the hype for books?
Or do you pride yourself on going against the grain?
21) What fictional character are you most like?
An awkward, yet interesting, question.
22) What fictional character is your favorite?
Hmm…
23) Are you more of a plot-driven reader or a character-driven reader?
What’s worse, cardboard characters or plots with the subtlety of a bulldozer?
24) What books have made you cry?
People are inexplicably drawn to books that will ruin their moods.
25) How do you get out of a reading slump?
We have yet to solve the problem of constant reading slumps.
26) Do you do reading challenges or readathons?
What do you think of the Goodreads challenge?
27) Do you buddy-read books?
The more the merrier.
28) How do you think social media has impacted the book world?
This one could be interesting
29) Book recommendations for your favorite genre
I love doing these because I love recommending books to people, especially if it gets them into a genre I think is under-appreciated (e.g. HISTORICAL FICTION)
30) What are the top 5 books on your TBR right now?
And why aren’t you reading them, hmm?
If you liked this post, consider subscribing to Frappes & Fiction. I post about the books I read, the books I think YOU should read and whatever else crosses my mind!
I’m also on social media!
(Classical music piece of the day: Mozart- Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 550, I. “Molto Allegro”)
These are great ideas indeed, as sometimes we do fall into a slump and everything just seems extra stale. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I love the classical music piece of the day addition! And gosh, I relate to you reading Harry Potter ten times in fifth grade, hard 🤣 But, in my defense, Deathly Hallows came out the summer after I graduated elementary school and I obviously to prepare 😇 (I also needed to prepare every other year in my life, apparently, but we’re just gonna go ahead and ignore that 😁)

It seems like everyone went through a Harry Potter obsession period– I was in fifth grade in 2015 so long after the series had come out in full but every single kid was reading it and pretending to cast spells on each other all day at school… good times… Oh I’m glad someone noticed my new classical music of the day section! I added it because I play piano and love listening to classical music but everyone seems to unduly hate it and I need to convert people

Well, if I’m being honest, I never really grew out of my Harry Potter obsession 😂 But yes, we also played casting spells on one another all the time!
I fully support your move to convert people to classic lovers! 😊 I play violin and piano and can’t fathom how anyone couldn’t like classical music, either…

Excellent post, so many great ideas. I’ve bookmarked this post so I can look at it later when I’m in a slump, or just want fresh ideas. My favorite is 24) What books have made you cry?. It would be a very long post for me because I love emotionally charged books! Thanks, Emily.

Well the reading slump problem I might have resolved once and for all. So I have set min 10 pages limit for everyday. If you dont feel like reading, read atleast 10 pages. Once you cross 50% of the book, you either finish it coz you are interested or just for the sake of finishing it. One way or anather , you are moving fire.
